A firm holds your practice's projects, calculations and reports, and the people who work on them. Every project is saved to a firm, so a new account starts by creating one, unless a colleague has invited you to theirs.
- 1
After you sign up, Kelvin opens Create a firm. While you belong to no firm, you can also reach it from Create a firm at the top of the rail on a wide screen, or from Settings → Firm.
- 2
Enter the Firm name. The ABN (optional) and Address (optional) can wait until later.
- 3
Choose Create firm. You become the firm's owner, it becomes the firm your work is saved to, and Kelvin opens Settings → Firm.
The firm profile
The firm's name, ABN and address are printed as the letterhead on the reports your firm issues. Its owners and admins change them under Firm profile on Settings → Firm, then choose Save firm profile. A detail left empty isn't printed.
The same sheet holds Checking. If you work alone, tick Allow an engineer to check their own work so you can check your own calculations. Left off, a calculation is checked by someone other than the engineer who prepared it, and every report still names who prepared and checked it.
Invited to a firm already?
Don't create a firm of your own. Open the invite link from the email again instead, and it adds you to theirs. See Join a firm from an invite.
