Add a calculated question to your test

Choose a calculation, its refrigerants and ranges, and your own words; Kelvin works out each student's figures and answer.

Training and classes · For teachers and supervisors · Updated 12 Oct 2026

In a calculated question you set what is asked, and Kelvin draws each student's figures and works out the answer and its working. You never type the answer.

Add one

  1. 1

Under Add a question, pick a calculation, or one of Kelvin's ready-made questions, in Calculation or preset, then choose Add it.

  2. 2

Choose its refrigerants and the ranges its readings are drawn from. Refrigerants a calculation can't use are listed with the reason.

  3. 3

Write the Question words. Put each reading in with its chip, such as {gauge}, at the cursor. Every chip under A student needs these must appear, or the question can't be answered.

  4. 4

    Set its marks.

Check it before you publish

  • To fix lists anything that stops the question being used, in plain words, such as a range outside a refrigerant's table.
  • Preview draws three questions a student may get, each with Kelvin's answer. Show the working opens the working, and New figures draws three more.

Every figure comes from the public refrigerant tables, computed with CoolProp, as on the refrigerant pages. Nothing is extrapolated: a draw outside a table is never set.
