Read the segment ledger and its checks

What each column, status word and rule in the Pipe Layout ledger means, and how the per-evaporator path totals beneath it are judged.

Pipework, equipment and charge · Updated 7 Oct 2026

The Segment ledger lists every segment, grouped by circuit: one group for each drawn run, named by its evaporators' tags and names as the plan shows them, then System lines for the lines that aren't drawn. Click a group's name to fold it.

  1. 1

Find the segment in its group, or right-click its run on the plan and choose View pipe performance.

  2. 2

Read its Size, Length, Velocity and ΔP, then its Status. The worst check decides the status; where more than one fails, it says how many more.

  3. 3

Read the Rule beside it: each check's figure against the criterion it was judged by.

  4. 4

To see more, choose Columns and add the equivalent-length factor (which you can edit there), mass flow, density, inside diameter, equivalent length, the pressure drop split, ΔT sat, ΔK per metre or the path's ΔT sat.

Status words

  • Velocity high (critical) or Velocity low (warning): outside the line's velocity band.
  • Over tube rating, Hotter than rated or Pressure not judged: the tube's pressure check against the standstill design pressure.
  • Double riser needed, Riser velocity low or Riser not judged: a ticked riser's oil-return check.
  • Over ΔK limit or Path over ΔK limit (critical): the segment's own saturation drop, or its path's, is over the line's Max ΔK total. Judged only where a total is set.
  • Flash before TXV (critical): on a liquid line, the subcooling less the line's saturation drop leaves nothing before the liquid flashes.
  • High ΔT impact (critical) above 1.0 K, and Moderate ΔT impact (warning) above 0.5 K: a suction or discharge segment's saturation drop. These are the sizing code's thresholds, with no cited source, and the rule says so.
  • Not judged: the refrigerant isn't in the library, so nothing is sized, or no evaporator load reaches the line, so it carries no flow.
  • Pass carries no mark.

The foot of the ledger

All segments totals the length of the sized segments, and the pressure drop of each line type on its own. Suction, discharge and liquid lines sit at different pressures, so their kPa are never added together. It also counts the checks failing.

Per-evaporator totals

  • Per-evaporator totals adds the trunk and branch along each evaporator's suction and liquid paths: the pressure drop and ΔT sat of each, then its status and rule, its load and its mass flow.
  • Its checks are Flash before TXV on the liquid path, and the suction path's ΔT impact.
  • An evaporator with no run drawn to it reads Not piped.

Where the figures stand

  • The note under the ledger's heading says where the conditions, the refrigerant properties and the tube sizes come from.
  • Pressure drop is Darcy–Weisbach with the Colebrook–White friction factor on drawn copper, over length × equivalent-length factor. Each row's rule names the viscosity it ran on.
  • Failing checks on system lines can't be shown on the plan, because those lines aren't drawn, so the plan's header counts them.

Note

The plan's run labels, the ledger and the warnings beside the page all read the same checks, so a run can't pass on the plan and fail in the ledger.
