Enter equipment from its datasheet

Kelvin holds no manufacturer catalogue: enter each evaporator, valve, compressor, condenser, separator and receiver from its datasheet or firm library.

Pipework, equipment and charge · Updated 7 Oct 2026

  1. 1

Choose the system in System, then its layout in Linked pipe layout. The coolroom evaporators, the rooms they serve and the liquid-line check all come from that layout.

  2. 2

In each block, choose Enter from datasheet and type the model in from its manufacturer's datasheet, or fill the sheet from your firm's library under From the firm library. Kelvin holds no manufacturer catalogue.

  3. 3

Read the Duty ledger at the top: each component's duty, what you chose, its margin and its status, with the rule it was judged by.

  4. 4

In every entry, fill in Product and Source: the manufacturer and model, and the document the figures come from, with its edition and page. Reports cite it.

  5. 5

Enter the rating as the datasheet publishes it, then choose Use this model. If anything required is missing, the sheet lists it and won't save.

  6. 6

Set each line's quantity, then name the selection in Selection name and choose Save selection.

An entered model is copied into the selection, so it stays readable whatever later happens to the library entry it came from. Open it again to change it with Update this model, or take it out with Remove from this selection. Update selection keeps the version it replaces in the selection's history.

Only published corrections

Kelvin applies a correction only where the datasheet publishes it. A capacity is scaled with TD only when you choose Linear with TD, as published, and moved to another refrigerant only by the factor you enter in Published factor. Otherwise a model is judged at its own rating conditions, or reads Not judged with the reason.

What each kind takes

  • Evaporator: rated capacity, the TD it's rated at and how that TD is defined, the rating refrigerant and basis, and whether capacity is linear with TD. Fans, fan power, airflow, defrost and operating charge feed Energy, Charge and Cost. A blank figure is never read as zero.
  • Expansion valve: its type, and the capacity read off the datasheet's table at this project's evaporating and condensing temperatures. It's judged only at the temperatures entered; a different subcooling is flagged, not corrected.
  • Compressor: a rated point, AHRI 540 coefficients, or its displacement. See Enter a compressor.
  • Condenser: capacity in watts per kelvin of TD, or heat rejection at a TD. A rating at a higher fan speed is optional and feeds the Energy station's EC fan scenario. Its pump-down capacity counts toward the receiver check only when it's published for the system's refrigerant.
  • Gas cooler, on a transcritical CO₂ system: rated capacity and its rating conditions. It's judged at that capacity against the cycle's heat rejection, not corrected to the design's conditions.
  • Oil separator: a maximum mass flow, or a refrigeration capacity at its refrigerant and temperatures. Minimum flow and separation efficiency only if the datasheet publishes them. A rating in m³/h isn't converted.
  • Receiver or flash tank: internal volume, and pump-down capacity for the refrigerant it's published for. Kelvin doesn't scale pump-down to another refrigerant.

Which lines are listed

  • Evaporators lists the coolroom evaporators on the linked layout, each with its load divided by the quantity you set. Display cases have built-in coils and aren't listed. Enter each one's Room temp and check its KTD, which starts at the rating's TD.
  • Expansion valves gives each evaporator its own valve, once that evaporator has a model.
  • Compressors follows the cycle's suction groups.

From the firm library

If your firm keeps an equipment library (Settings → Your firm → Equipment library), choose an entry under From the firm library to fill the sheet. Saved unchanged, the model keeps its link to the entry, and the ledger's Source column says whether it has been checked. Edited after copying, it becomes this project's own entry, and the library entry is unchanged.

Note

Each block with nothing entered yet says Kelvin holds no manufacturer catalogue and asks for the datasheet instead. Only the figures you enter, with their source, are used.

How picks are judged: Read the duty ledger.
