A design's revisions supersede each other and never overwrite. Each time you choose Update design in Cycle, the version it replaces is kept in the design's version history, with when it was saved, who saved it and any sign-off it carried.
- 1
On Engineering Projects, choose the arrow at the start of a design's row (Show cycle readings and versions).
- 2
Version history lists the earlier versions, newest first.
- 3
To name a revision, choose Add a note on its row, type what the revision was, and press Enter or click away. Escape leaves it as it was.
- 4
To go back to a version, choose Restore. It opens in Cycle with that version's inputs. Review them, then choose Update design to keep it.
Naming a revision
A note is one short line, up to 60 characters: "Lower SST trial", "Client's reduced load". It is what Cycle's comparison and the Cycle report offer the revision by, so two revisions saved the same afternoon can be told apart by what was tried in them.
A note can be rewritten at any time. It changes no figure the version holds and clears no sign-off. Owners, admins and engineers can write notes; reviewers read them.
Restoring
Restore changes nothing until you save. When you choose Update design in Cycle, the restored inputs become the design, and the state they replace is kept as a version in its turn. Nothing later is lost.
Saving clears the design's check and approval, as any edit does. The version it replaces keeps them. See Have a design checked and approved.
Why a version's date looks one save behind
Saved is when the state a version holds was saved, not when it was replaced. So the newest version always carries the date of the save before the latest one. The line beneath, "superseded", gives the other end: when the next save replaced it. Read the two together as the time that version was the design.
Limits
- Kelvin keeps a design's 20 most recent earlier versions. When a 21st is saved, the oldest is dropped.
- Version history is kept for refrigeration designs, from Cycle. HVAC and hydronic project rows don't open a version history.
- A version saved before Kelvin recorded who saved it reads a dash under Saved by.
