Draw a room plan and place its evaporators and doors

Draw the room's outline to scale, set exact wall lengths, and move its evaporators and doors with live placement checks.

Heat load and the cycle · Updated 7 Oct 2026

The Room plan draws the selected room to scale. Its outline is the room's footprint: the floor and ceiling areas, and every wall in the construction table, come from it.

Draw the outline

  1. 1

Choose Rectangle, then click one corner and the opposite corner. For any other shape, choose Freeform, click each corner, then click the start point to close the outline.

  2. 2

To reshape it, choose Edit outline. Drag a numbered corner, click the hollow square on a wall to split it, or click the × beside a corner to remove it.

  3. 3

To set a wall's exact length, go back to Place, click the wall's dimension, type the Length and choose Apply. The wall's start corner stays fixed, and the corners after it move with it.

While you draw, a button beside the tools snaps each wall to fixed angle steps, and Cancel goes back to Place. A wall you add takes the construction of the wall before it.

A rectangle keeps its Length and Width on the sheet. Any other outline shows as Outline there, with its walls, area and perimeter, and is edited on the plan.

Place evaporators and doors

Kelvin recommends where each evaporator goes, and starts each door where it was added. In Place, drag a unit anywhere inside the room and a door along any wall. Scroll to zoom and drag empty space to pan, or use Zoom in, Zoom out and Fit to room.

  • Snap holds units and doors to the grid.
  • Show recommended shows, dashed, where the placement engine put each unit.
  • Select a unit or door to see its placement checks, each marked Critical, Warning or Pass. They run live while you drag, and where a drop is blocked the plan says so and the item stays where it was.
  • Reset to recommended puts the selected unit back on its recommended position, or a door back where it started. Reset all puts every unit back.
  • Each unit's throw is drawn to scale from the unit and cut at the wall it would run into.

The Evaporator placement table lists each unit (E1, E2 and so on) with its duty, where it is placed beside where it was recommended, its mounting height and throw, and why it was put there. Its warnings are marked Constraint or Preference. The placement follows rules of thumb, not simulated airflow.

Evaporator units under Sizing basis sets how many units the room has. Auto follows the placement engine's rule of thumb, which has no cited source, or choose a number. The design load is split evenly across the units.

Placed positions are saved with the room when you choose Save room.

Racking zones

Under Product and racking zones, Add zone marks stacked product along one side of the room, with its Depth and Stack height. Zones are optional. They feed the placement checks, to keep airflow out of stacked product, and each runs the full side of the room's bounding box.

Tags that tie the plan to the tables

Each wall carries a tag outside it (N, E, S and W on a four-sided room, otherwise W1, W2 and so on), each door D1, D2, and each unit E1, E2. The construction table, the doors table and the load build-up use the same tags.

If the room is on a pipe layout

Once a room has been imported into a saved pipe layout, moving a unit here doesn't change that layout. A notice says so. Choose Sync positions to the layout to push the new positions across, then check the pipe routing around the units you moved.

Note

A door wider than its wall is flagged as critical on the plan and in the doors table. Widen the wall or move the opening.
